Move Heavy Furniture Without Hurting Yourself (or the Walls)

Most moving injuries happen on stairs, with the heaviest item, by the most determined person. Use these techniques and your back (and walls) will thank you.

01Lift with legs, never with back

Bend knees, keep the load close to your chest, and rise straight up. If you have to twist, move your feet — never your spine.

02Sofas — high and low

Two people, one high one low, tilted on its end. Most 3-seaters fit through standard doors this way; flat they don't.

03Fridges — empty, defrost, strap upright

Empty 24 h before, defrost overnight, transport STANDING UP. A fridge laid flat needs 4 hours upright before powering on or the compressor dies.

04Wardrobes — disassemble

Big wardrobes never survive corners. Take them apart, label every panel, photograph the screws layout on your phone.

05Washing machines — lock the drum

Use the original transport bolts at the back. Without them, the drum smashes the heating element on the first speed bump.

06Protect the walls

Cardboard taped on door frames and corners. A scratched wardrobe you can sand; a deep wall scratch costs your deposit.

07When to just call us

Pianos, marble tables, gym equipment, anything over 80 kg or up 3+ floors with no lift. The cost of one back injury is higher than 5 professional moves.

Key takeaway

Bend knees. Strap upright. Disassemble big stuff. And know when to stop being a hero.
